Hello,
JRMC is a Magic site. I am looking for resources and information on how
other facilities are handling newborn medication documentation on the emar
prior to the patient account being created.
Thank you in advance for any information you share!

We pre-register our newborns. That way the account is ready for the provider to enter orders and meds are ready on MAR for the administration.

Thank you for your information. Do you happen to know the workflow in the
Admissions process for this? We tried something like this and it did not
work previously. I would like to give it a go again with some tried and
true recommendations!
Thank you

We pre-register the newborn when the mom comes in for her delivery visit. The registration clerk fills in as much as possible on the pre-reg screen and then when the baby is born the Unit Secretary in Labor and Delivery rolls the visit to ADM IN. Mostly all that is needed is the date and time of delivery, sex of the baby, location of the newborn, and the provider’s name. This way the orders for the newborn meds can be entered pretty quickly after delivery or if the baby needs to go to NICU then it is admitted pretty quickly.

I would also love to hear how you manage the orders for newborns. Ensuring they have the correct start date. Also in order to place orders we must enter allergies. Many of my staff are not comfortable entering NKDA on an infant who isn't born yet. Thank you in advance
