We are 6.08 and our therapy department gets irritated because Medicare and Medicaid patients with RCR accounts are discharged for billing purposes and a new account is created. This creates a lot of work for therapy because they have to re-document everything. I brought this up with our Meditech specialist and he gave me the knowledge based article on ADM RCR Parameters how auto-discharging and auto-creating will allow for some of that information to pull over, but agreed this is a concern for many Meditech customers. Can anyone else tell me how their therapy departments handle this situation?

Our billing department says they have to discharge them at the end of each fiscal year, or if the patient is seen in the ED, unless the therapy visit and ED visit occurred on the same day. So, if the patient is seen in therapy with an RCR account today and tomorrow goes to the ED, the billing department said they have to discharge the account by Medicare guidelines because it's an interruption of service, and give them a new account. Therapy then has to re-document everything. But their biggest frustration is because billing manually discharges them at the end of each fiscal year (June 30th). ALL PATIENTS with Medicare. Is that really necessary? Does anyone else have this issue and if so, how do you handle it?
